Choosing Colors For Your Web Site

The problem with the Internet is that there is no direct selling face-to-face with any client like it is over the counter. A web site is a visual tool used to psychologically interact with visitors. The content of the site has a great psychological impact on any visitor and this includes the design of each page of the site.

The colors play an important role in attracting a visitor and keeping him at the site long enough to compel him or her to click around. Therefore, these colors should be chosen with the greatest of care.

The colors and design of a site speak a language of their own and are used to express certain unspoken words to a visitor. The banner, background, footer, text, headlines and sub-headings all speak out to a visitor and so a lot of thought must go into using them.

Many web designers use the following colors to express certain feelings or imbibe these feelings in a visitor to the site:

If the site is required to evoke a feeling of passion, warning, danger, love, food, adventure, excitement or impulse in a visitor, the color RED is best suited for the role. Should the web designer want to generate trust or express seriousness, success, power, calmness, or professionalism through the site the color BLUE is best suited for the role.

GREEN denotes wealth, money, health, nature, healing, harmony, and life. If the site is required to express comfort, celebration, youth, fun, creativity, and affordability the theme of the site should be ORANGE say designers.

PURPLE is always associated with all that is royal, just, uncertainty, luxury, dreams, ambiguity, and fantasy.

Should the site be required to express innocence, simplicity, purity and cleanliness then the theme of the site should be centered on WHITE. YELLOW is always associated with the feeling of cheerfulness, amusement and curiosity as well as a playful attitude.

Softness, sweetness, youthfulness, and innocence are denoted by the color PINK. BROWN denotes the earth, tribal and primitive sites. Neutrality and indifference are expressed through the color GREY and BLACK is always associated with seriousness, mystery, secrecy and darkness.

Designers mostly use BLUE and WHITE backgrounds with business sites while sport sites use a lot of green. Children’s sites as well as maternity sites should use PINK while food sites should use a lot of red say experts in the field. Then we come to the point of being downright practical.

The color of the text should be chosen very carefully. For instance, a black text on a white background would be dull but easy on the eyes but yellow text on white would be outright ridiculous.

In conclusion, it is not just the written content that is important to a site but the colors used in the design play just an important a role in attracting and keeping a visitor at the site as the content supporting the visuals do.
